This cartoon appeared in Family Circus back in 2010. It makes me laugh…and feel a bit old…
I must admit, I do remember 1988…bad hair, tight jeans, I think I might have still had leggings…
How about you?

Read of course…To all who know me that comes as no revelation. But more specifically, I love to read with my son each morning before school. We set aside 15 minutes to read a chapter from our chosen title. We religiously guard this time and if something unforeseen raises its ugly head, my son demands that we make up the time after school.
It’s a gift I am well aware to have a 12 year old boy (12 going on 30) still wish to sit and listen to his mothers voice. In the sea of electronic temptation, I have won this small victory. I have proudly raised a quartet of readers who share my love of books, but he is my youngest, the last to sit and read with me and for this small treasure I am eternally grateful.

This Isn't What It Looks Like

As we celebrated the arrival of our first grandchild I kept finding myself veering off into those thoughts of the impending pain and sadness of the moment when I’ll have to leave our little man and return home. It is easy to become so caught up in the future worry that I forget to enjoy this moment.

It’s in many ways very similar to preparing for a deployment. You can be so busy preparing for the separation that you don’t appreciate the months in between. Try to catch yourself when you slip and remind yourself to soak it in so that you can pull these memories out later when you need them.

Every time I hold my Gabe, I feel the weight of him in my arms, I breathe in that new baby smell, remember the feel of skin so soft and even his cries are music to my ears.
These moments will tide me over when I am hours away. ( A million photos will help too.)
